It all happened so suddenly. It was a Bye-Bye grey Berlin and a Hello deep blue sea & palm trees. A few weeks ago, we jetted off to Thailand; destination: beach. While the entire country is absolutely worth visiting, it pays to be picky when it comes to beach-destinations. If you stick to the best of the best, then you can pretty much set your jaw to the ‘wow’ position. From a starecasers perspective, the Anantara Si Kao resort seemed pretty darned special. At the end of the Trang Province, and a 1-hour flight from Bangkok, it is not somewhere you stumble across accidentally. It’s pretty much a romantic getaway destination that geography has made incredibly stunning and, as it turned out to be, highly enjoyable.
The Anantara Si Kao Resort was, beyond any reasonable doubt, one of the best resorts we’ve been to. Beautifully situated right where the river reaches its crescendo into the Andaman Sea, and secluded inside an exotic garden with just enough design touches to keep it modern and interesting, there was very little not to like – from the brilliantly designed rooms with maxi beds and sea-view balconies, to the sea-front restaurant and cocktail bar. The spa was another little extra bonus, and it’s where the resort’s
prodigious charm became most apparent. The main beach was also impressive: a glorious long stretch of sand, perfect for a wildlife-viewing walk. However, staring out to sea from the pool, mere metres from the water, was our ultimate and most beautiful escape. The views out over the sea were simply jaw-dropping and the colours were so high definition that it looked almost computer generated.
It would be churlish to spoil the many surprises of the Anantara resort right now, but suffice to say everything is as beautiful as it looks on pictures. Perhaps even more. If a truly epic beach-holiday is what you are after, then Sikao can’t be beaten for colours, isolation and natural beauty. Whether it’s a case of chilling by the pool, getting a spa treatment, or learning to dive,
this place has an energy of a different kind. Honestly, anyone would have to have hard heart not to fall in love with this place. This is definitely the sort of travel highlight that dwarfs everything else listed on your itinerary, making the rest of the trip seems so miserable in comparison. However, it doesn’t. There’s way more Thailand beauty to come. Just wait and see.
